Unleash the power of delicious ingredients for a vibrant and healthy complexion!

If you’re like me, always on the lookout for that glow-from-within skin (without adding a dozen new products to your lineup), you might want to consider what’s going into your body rather than just what’s going on your skin. I used to layer on endless serums, searching for that magic glow, but I’ve come to realize that the foods and drinks we consume have just as much—if not more—impact. The right foods and drinks can do wonders for skin health, bringing radiance that no highlighter can match. Here are five of my favorite skin-friendly picks that are simple to add to your routine and are as good for you as they are delicious!

1) Green Tea: Your Antioxidant Skin Armor

Let’s kick things off with green tea—my new favorite morning ritual. Each sip feels like a hug for my body, and I can’t help but appreciate how it warms me from the inside out. This magical drink is packed with antioxidants, particularly EGCG, which helps soothe inflammation and calm any redness on my skin. According to a study it can also prevent skin disorders (read more here). You can a slice of lemon for a refreshing twist. Whether I’m cozying up with a hot cup in the winter or sipping it iced during a warm summer afternoon, green tea has become my daily wellness companion, reminding me that small choices can make a big difference for my skin and yours too!

2) Avocados: Creamy, Dreamy Hydration

If I’m being honest, I could eat avocados every single day. They’ve got this creamy texture that makes everything feel like a treat, and they’re loaded with healthy fats and vitamin E which is good for dry and sensitive skin types.

I like to mash them on toast or blend them into smoothies, and each bite feels like a little bit of luxury for my skin. You can also make some guacamole and dip nachos! On pamper days or days you don't want to eat it, you can even whip up an avocado face mask. It’s amazing how something so delicious can do wonders for your complexion—keeping the skin hydrated and radiant.

3) Berries: The Sweet Skin Boosters

Berries are like nature’s candy, you can’t resist their vibrant colors and sweet flavors. Whenever I’m feeling snacky, I reach for a bowl of blueberries or strawberries, knowing they’re not just delicious but also brimming with antioxidants and vitamin C which can help with acne. Berries are high in water and fiber, which can help keep your skin hydrated and prevent moisture loss. They can also help with sun damage and anti-aging.

You can toss them in your morning oatmeal, blend them into smoothies, top on pancakes or even snack on them with a bit of dark chocolate (another antioxidant source!). These little gems make me feel like I’m indulging, but my skin is reaping the benefits too.

4) Walnuts: The Crunchy Skin Nourishers

A handful of walnuts a day has become a non-negotiable for me. Walnuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and zinc, both of which work wonders for the skin. The omega-3s keep my skin looking hydrated and smooth, while zinc helps with inflammation and healing. Walnuts contain vitamin B5, which can help clear dark spots and tans.

Plus, they’re so easy to add to salads, yogurt, or just to snack on. I always keep a little stash in my bag as a quick, skin-friendly snack that keeps hunger at bay and my skin looking its best.

5) Fish: The Omega-3 Powerhouses

For all non-vegetarian lovers, fatty fish like salmon and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for maintaining skin hydration and elasticity.

You can enjoy a grilled fish dish, knowing that you're not just treating your taste buds but also your skin. Salmon also contains a special type of antioxidant called astaxanthin, which can help to reduce the appearance of age spots and other discoloration on the skin.

Omega-3s help combat dryness and promote a smooth complexion. Plus, the light, flaky texture is just perfection, whether in a salad or on a taco. Fish is like the secret weapon in my culinary arsenal for glowing skin!

6) Tomatoes: The Bright Red Beauty Boosters

Tomatoes are my go-to for a vibrant skin boost and my favorite snack to eat raw! Packed with lycopene, a powerful antioxidant, they help protect the skin from sun damage and improve its texture. Tomatoes also help prevent acne, reduce oiliness, tighten pores, remove dead skin, soothe irritated skin, brighten the complexion, reduce signs of aging and stimulate collagen production.

If you don't enjoy eating tomatoes plain, you can toss fresh tomatoes into salads, make soups or blend them into sauces. The bright red color is like a little invitation to nourish the skin while enjoying your meal!

Since it is bitter on its own, you can sprinkle cacao nibs on smoothies for a delicious crunch, melt and eat with berries or even have it with a delicious dessert! This is perfect for chocolate lovers to indulge in and also help the skin!

8) Water with a Twist: Hydration with Extra Benefits

WATER WATER WATER! Saving the best and most important for last! Water helps with reducing wrinkles and fine lines, improving complexion by combating skin issues like psoriasis and eczema, minimizing puffiness, accelerating healing, clearing acne, slowing the aging process, shrinking pore size, alleviating itchiness and everything else! Women should have about 2 litres (8 cups) of fluids a day, and men about 2.6 litres (10 cups).

But let’s be real- we know staying hydrated is crucial for your overall health and glowing skin, but plain water can feel a bit monotonous. That’s why I love to jazz it up with slices of lemon, cucumber, or mint. It transforms my hydration game! The zesty lemon adds a refreshing kick, cucumber brings in hydration, and mint helps with digestion. You can make a big pitcher each morning and keep it in the fridge, feeling like you're treating yourself to a spa day at home. Make your glass aesthetic if it helps you (it certainly helps me!) add a cute straw, tray, anything to motivate yourself to drink.

Incorporating these delightful foods and drinks into your daily routine can transform not only your skin but also how you approach your meals. It serves as a reminder that enjoying life and treating yourself can go hand in hand with caring for your skin. It’s all about enjoying the journey and savoring each bite while nurturing your body. So, if you’re looking for a way to glow from the inside out, start with these tasty treats—you might just find your skin thanking you!
